A Jam’in experience

I can’t believe I didn’t get right on this last night…  I made homemade strawberry jam for the FIRST TIME yesterday.  It was a HUGE process, a HUGE mess, a HUGE expense, etc.  It tastes very good and we had fun making it but here is what we bought and used

about 100 jars (Jill and Minda each brought an additional 12 or so)

70 lbs sugar

50 lbs strawberries

Lemon Juice

22 boxes of Fruit Pectin

and we still didn’t have enough to finish.  We needed about 70 more jars, about 30 more lbs sugar, and about 8 more boxes of pectin.  CRAZY!  We had WAY TOO MANY strawberries so in the end, we bagged pureed strawberries with intentions of syrup, smoothies, etc.

oh the strawberriesfirst jar of jamdelicious strawberriesmaking the pectinjust the stems

We had fun–for about 6 hours.  Yes, it took 6 hours to complete our "fun" task.  All I can say is that I am glad my family and friends like strawberry jam!  : }
