It is AZ so this is how we spent our spring break… (keep in mind that it was the week of March 9-13) The water was freezing but that doesn’t stop a bunch of crazy kids.

Next week will be even more of an adventure. Kristie comes to visit on Sunday, Tim leaves on Monday, me and Zoe leave on Friday morning, Tim comes back Friday night and leaves again on Sunday, I get home Monday. Tim has 2 more trips that week… I can barely keep track of who is who and where they went. : )![]()
OK, a story about spring break:
my kids ALWAYS want to leave with me when I go ride my bike, walk, hike, swim, etc. I told them that I would take them for a hike during spring break. I had a vision (you know how I feel about visions and reality coming together). My vision included us enjoying a beautiful day outside, wandering around in the desert and skipping and holding hands. (well, maybe not that part but wouldn’t that be a happy family?) The bad part of the story started when I told Zoe that we were going hiking. Zane was still asleep and she proceeded to have a mini breakdown and completely protested the idea. I was so disappointed. How could this be my daugher? I love to be outside… she, I guess not so much. Anyhow, I somehow convinced her to get in the car and that we would have a spectacular time-isn’t it a mother’s (and father’s) responsibility to introduce kids to new things, help them learn, etc? ANYHOW, I invited Gabrielle to join us since her kids were out on spring break too. We also had Damon and Ellie Brown join us. It was going to be a party-that was my plan! Good times, fun activity, a little light exercise and everybody would be so happy…. My kids got about .1 miles into the trail and were causing all sorts of problems. Zoe was complaining of a stomach ache and couldn’t walk and just kept sitting in the dirt. Zane saw that I was carrying her and decided for himself that he too could not walk. I stopped and told Gabrielle that I would just turn back instead of ruin it for everyone. Gabrielle was a warrior, asked for directions through the rest of the trail, kept Damon and Ellie so they didn’t have to miss out and continued on with the morning. Me…. wahhhhh-carrying both kids back to my car trying to be patient and kind but all I could think in my head was that I should have just gone by myself and found a babysitter for the kids. But seeing as I am trying to be PINK instead of RED (the RED in me was what got us there in the first place-the determination to have my plan work!) I rolled with the punches.
On our way home, Zoe had me pull over a few times worried that she was about to barf. In between pulling over and holding her on the side of the road, I was getting phone calls from Gabrielle, “Lisa you are dead to me.” Our phones kept cutting out so all I could put together was that she stepped on a snake, Damon fell and got a bloody knee, Ellie had blisters on her heels and they might be lost.
I can’t imagine anything worse than a snake, especially for Gabrielle-and she STEPPED on it. All of her fears of outdoors and hiking were officially confirmed!
Well, I made it home, put Zoe in the bath to soak upon her request, jumped in the shower and got ready in my 7 minute showdown, grabbed Zane and headed back to San Tan to doctor up Ellie and Damon. I was supposed to be watching them and I left them in the care of another and now they were hurt, my friend was scared, my kids were crying, blah, blah, blah, it was a mess. Good news, everyone had a smile and we can laugh about it. Damon and Ellie never complained… Oh, and I am not sure that Gabrielle will go hiking with me again. Our next adventure might just be on the Queen Creek Wash. : )
So, I suppose the hiking idea wasn’t as cool as I thought it to be. Who knew? Sorry Gabrielle!
AND, I have no pictures of the hiking event (it was no event for me-just picking up some crying children and going back to where I started)
This last link is just for fun. When Zoe is pretending to be on the phone it sounds so real you might never know that there is nobody on the other end. I tried all day to capture a full conversation but kept missing. One of these days, I will get it.
