make-up

Zoe, let’s have a little talk about make-up, shall we?

I don’t wear make-up.  I tried to and even thought it would be fun but quickly realized that it was more work than I wanted.  It also was burning the lids of my eyes-a sure sign that it was dumb.  I felt more grown up with make-up but maybe I should decide that growing up isn’t all that it is cracked up to be.  : ) When I dabble on some make-up, I automatically feel fancy but the problem is that I am far from fancy.  So, I don’t wear make-up.

I have noticed that you really enjoy putting make-up on before we leave.  You love to pack a little purse with the 6 year old necessities and somehow make-up has been added to that.  I wonder where and when your need for make-up was ignited.

I am struck with interest when I see children follow a lead-any lead.  Sometimes that lead is good and sometimes bad.  Kids come home saying all sorts of things and you wonder where they picked it up, where it was learned and where they have said it before.  I say this because I realize that make-up is shown everywhere-magazines, movies, books, etc.  We are able to watch people put make-up on as a part of everyday life.  It is assumed that we all need it and wear it at a certain age.

I am just having some deep thinking moments here-to realize the impact of society and culture, even at 6~.
